The What Next? Festival of New Music

February 3-6, 2011

Something exciting is happening in Hamilton. This weekend the What Next? Festival will showcase the best and newest in music from classical to folk to electronic and world music. This year the festival focuses on collaborations that you may not expect from a symphony orchestra:

  • members of the HPO performing with pop/folk sensation Basia Bulat
  • a laptop orchestra and solo laptop performer
  • an electronic piano with computer-driven video projections that interact in real time with the music
  • an experimental electronic music group
  • and a performance that combines the Indian percussion instrument the tabla with violin and
  • dance.

The festival also features panel discussions on various topics in new music with local experts from McMaster University and festival performers and composers, as well as chamber music performances by HPO musicians featuring new music by Canadian and international composers.
