The Burlington Art Centre (BAC) is a multi-faceted facility that supports local artists, stages year-round exhibitions, and nurtures an internationally recognized ceramic collection.
Founded in 1978, the BAC grew from the early efforts of several visual arts cooperatives and guilds that recognized the need for a ‘home’ for artists working in the region.
Today seven guilds work within the BAC, using studios dedicated to photography, hand-weaving, spinning, sculpture, woodcarving, ceramics, fine arts, pottery and hooking craft.
Talented instructors and fully equipped studios help develop not only guild members, but also art students of all ages through courses and hands-on programs for schools and businesses.
As the seventh largest public art gallery in Ontario the BAC also provides a venue for art lovers and artists to come together through nearly 20 annual exhibitions showcasing regional, national and internationally acclaimed artists.
Guests can experience art by wandering the BAC halls and through the Lee-Chin Family Gallery, F.R. Perry Gallery, and Permanent Collection Corridor, a beautiful conservatory, outdoor courtyard, café and the Art Etc. shop.
As a not-for-profit organization, the BAC relies on sponsorships, donations and fundraising to continue our programs. Art rental and sales programs are available, as well as meeting and event rooms for rent to the public.
We rely on dedicated BAC members who volunteer their time throughout the year and on generous corporate partners. ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s 2011 support will help us continue to offer these important community programs and services.
The BAC Permanent Collection of Contemporary Canadian Ceramics has achieved international recognition as the largest such collection in Canada. It continues to grow in size and artistic depth.
