The NEXT GEN Electric Arc Furnace project aims to demonstrate a comprehensive real-time process control system where the furnace is monitored and adjusted on-the-fly for energy losses. The objective is to use an array of advanced sensors and process models to manage the EAF's mass and energy balance online. The primary goal is to make a reduction of approximately 5% (36 kWh/ton of steel) in EAF energy use and related GHG emissions. This project is a collaboration between Tenova Goodfellow Inc., Sustainable Development Technology Canada, ArcelorMittal Dofasco and the University of Toronto
